| Portswood Lawn Tennis Club - http://www.portswoodtennisclub.co.uk Portswood Lawn Tennis Club has one of the most attractive settings in Hampshire. The six courts, including three grass are well maintained by a resident groundsman. The club is part of the Portswood Residents’ Gardens (see History), the entrance being in Abbott’s Way which is parallel with the Portswood end of Highfield Lane, Southampton.
The club caters for serious and social players. Teams are entered in the Hants & Isle of Wight and Apsley summer leagues and in the Hants & Isle of Wight winter leagues. There are also Veterans’ teams and an annual Club Tournament.
Mix-ins are held two evenings a week and on Sunday afternoons in the summer and Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the winter. For most of the rest of the time, members book the courts (one hour for singles, 90 minutes for doubles). There are frequent social events from American tournaments to Club meals and parties.
There is a thriving junior section with weekly coaching and competitive events. |
